If you are failing it is most likely because you aren't getting the help you need to pass those classes. Most of the teachers are very willing to help you with your classes and they don't want to see you fail. They give you all the tools to do things that you want and it is just a matter of fact of getting involved and making sure that you are doing things that you want to so. They have a lot of activities and chances for kids to get involved with what they are most interested in. Senior: Woodland Park is like any other school. I think the staff and the students also have such a intertwining connection that it really makes the school community seem like a family. Without hesitance people greet you in the hallways through passing period and flash a smile throughout class. On the first day, I was greeted by numerous teens asking if I needed somewhere to sit for lunch. I have never met such a more welcoming group of students that are genuinely happy to be in a place of education. Although the teachers do a wonderful job introducing you to the school, the students are truly the ones who have made a significant impact on me. The staff is so genuine, especially within their welcoming and were very helpful resources when fixing all the technical things regarding transferring schools. Sophomore: I had just moved to Colorado this past year and being the new kid in a new state was intimidating but as soon as I had spent a couple days at LP, I immediately felt integrated and involved in the community. Since so many students are academically skilled, many teachers cannot provide the skill level needed for higher level classes.
Many students struggle greatly with mental health, heavily related to school pressures, and cannot rely on any school resources. Although these statistics easily prove the school wide excellence, the pressure this puts onto many students is not well handled. Along with academic excellence, the sports domination is easily reflected by over 100 state championships in the schools history. Almost every student who Cheyenne produces participates in some sort of extracurricular whether it be sports, clubs, or student government. Students constantly succeeded in and after Cheyenne Mountain with a 97% graduation rate and AP class participation that heavily outweighs that of average classes.
Junior: Cheyenne Mountain High School has amazing academics and extracurricular activity participation, but falls short in the care for student mental health and qualifications of teachers.
